Week in the Arts - January 11th

  Aspen Words’ annual Winter Words series kicks off on Tuesday with a bang. U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera speaks on Tuesday night. The lineup also includes Alison Bechdel, author of the graphic novel Fun Home, which debuted as a musical last year.

 

Wednesday at the Basalt Regional Library, the University of Colorado’s Flatiron Camareta singers perform. The show also features Aspen Music Festival and School resident artists.

 

The 65th year of Winterskol kicks off on Thursday. The festivities include fireworks, ice carving and a dog fashion show.

 

Craig O’Brien discusses his show at the Art Base Annex, formerly known as the Wyly Annex.

 

The Aspen Historical Society leads a historic pub tour on Thursday. The stops include The Red Onion and J-Bar.

 

The Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities opens up the Valley Visual Arts show on Friday. The 36th year of the show includes over five-dozen artists in 2d and 3d mediums. The show will be on display at the R2 Gallery and at Bonfire Coffee.

 

Lisa Ellena opens her ceramics show in Glenwood Springs at Colorado Mountain College.

 

Head for the Hills plays at the Wheeler Opera House on Friday. The group touches on genres like folk and hip-hop. So much so that the fit into both SXSW and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.

 

Sunday night, Todd Rundgren plays at the Belly Up. He released his most recent album, GLOBAL, in April of 2015.
