Wheeler Opera House postpones reopening after “structural repair issues”

Aspen Snowmass

The Wheeler Opera House will be delaying its opening until early January. The venue was originally scheduled to reopen its doors on Dec. 18, but an unforeseen repair issue forced the schedule to be pushed back a month.

According to a press release, the project required “a new opening in an existing masonry wall.” That wall required additional structural supports.

“There’s been a lot of buzz and excitement brewing over the grand re-opening of the Wheeler and we hope that continues even if we have to wait a little longer,” said Wheeler Executive Director Gena Buhler, in a press release.

Though Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox and comedian Kevin Smith were slated to perform at the venue this month, the events will not be cancelled, but instead will be moved to Harris Concert Hall.

The New Year’s Eve performance of The Slambovian Circus of Dreams was not able to be rescheduled. Ticketholders for that event will be receiving refunds.

The new opening date is now Jan. 8.
