Aspen Welcomes New Chabad Jewish Community Center

Rabbi Mendel Mintz, and his wife, Leiba, co-direct the Aspen Chabad Jewish Community Center, at it's shiny new location on East Main. The center, which includes a synagogue, opens Thursday, August 7th.

Part of Aspen's Jewish community is preparing for a major upgrade when it comes to events, classes, and services. The new Aspen Chabad Jewish Community Center and Synagogue opens to the public tomorrow, Thursday August 7th, in the evening. Rabbi Mendel Mintz and his wife, Leiba co-direct the center. Theirs is one of three Jewish congregations in the Aspen area. Aspen Public Radio sat down with Rabbi Mintz as workers were putting on the finishing touches.

Concert explores faith through music, storytelling

Tonight (Tues 8-6-13), at the Aspen District Theater, a group of young Jewish musicians will explore the concept of faith through music and storytelling. The performance is called Beyond Belief: Sounds of Sacred Searching. Aspen Public Radio’s Rebecca Kruth went to a rehearsal for a behind-the-scenes peek and filed this report.   

For Cantor Rollin Simmons, the exploration of faith stretches beyond the walls of the Aspen Jewish Congregation where she’s served for the last few years.
